CHARACTERISTICS

JUTE
BACK: Tufted through a primary backing.
Secondary backing, "Jute Back" is then
adhered to the carpet during the finishing
process. Jute is a natural fiber and comes from a
plant. IDENTIFICATION:
The backing is brown as opposed to the
white Action-Bac. You will also see both the
primary and secondary backing at the selvage
edge.
INSTALLATION: Tackless,
Direct Glue, Double Glue
CONCERNS: Delamination,
Shrinking when exposed to water.

ACTION-BAC: Tufted
through a primary backing. Secondary back
"Action Back" is laminated onto the
carpet with a latex mixture during the finishing
process. Action-bac is a synthetic backing, it is
made of polypropylene. IDENTIFICATION: Both
the primary and secondary backings will be
visible at the selvage edge.
INSTALLATION: Tackless,
Direct Glue, Double Glue
CONCERNS: Delamination,
quality of the pick in the secondary backing. The
higher the pick the higher the quality of the
backing.

UNITARY: Tufted
through a primary backing. Face yarn is tufted in
straight rows or in a cross-over stitch. A heavy
bead of latex is applied to the back in place of
a secondary backing. IDENTIFICATION: No
secondary backing, heavy latex, only a primary
backing will be visible at the selvage edge.
INSTALLATION: Glue
direct only. Some manufacturers may allow Double
Glue method. Do not install using tackless
method.

VINYL BACKED: Tufted
through a primary backing. A Vinyl backing is
then laminated onto the carpet. These products
will be six-foot wide "due to the
weight" or cut into tiles. IDENTIFICATION: Hard
vinyl back, stiff, black in color.
INSTALLATION:
Pressure sensitive adhesive or peel and stick.
CONCERNS: Moisture,
follow manufacturers recommendation concrening
subfloor moisture levels.
